Hello or “Privyet” and welcome to Nutty Girl Treats! My name is Irina, and I am a Russian-American artist, designer, cooking enthusiast, and a crafty girl. I was born and raised in Eastern Europe and came to America in 1996 as an exchange student after winning a competition in my home town. Ever since I was a child, I loved spending time making things. I’ve knitted scarves, made clothes for my dolls, created paper story books, and more. My childhood hobby led me to pursue a career in art and design. I enjoy being creative, whether it’s designing, working on a DIY project or cooking up a new dish. I love finding new ways to make life more colorful and beautiful.
So, what’s up with the “Nutty Girl” name?
I love being creative in the kitchen, so the inspiration for Nutty Girl Treats was my grandmother’s recipe for Walnut Cookies, or Oreshki, as I called them growing up, which is an authentic and popular Russian dessert. My mom traveled back to my hometown a couple of years ago and brought back one of our family’s treasures – a Russian walnut pastry maker – “oreshnitsa.” This is a very unique kitchen appliance, and I was so thrilled to have it in my hands and continue with our family tradition. Secondly, I’m a bit of a squirrel – always snacking on nuts and seeds as they are my favorite go-to food.
